Welcome to the Read Aloud Review

Our intent is to help all of you - parents, teachers and librarians - who love to read aloud to children, by reviewing the best readalouds available whether new (frontlist) or older (backlist). We choose books by authors who write imaginatively, whose narratives drive the text (with the illustrations simply an enhancement) and whose books have a core integrity worthy of discussion.

Each of our reviews includes:

• Readalouding tips on pace, expression, volume, characterization etc., and/or suggestions of themes or issues that are especially good springboards for family, school and library discussions.
  
  
• A gauge of uninterrupted reading time for each book so you can judge how long reading the book straight through really takes.
  
  
• Suggestions for the age at which a child might first like to hear a particular book. Because we promote reading aloud to children early and often, our age guidelines encourage thinking continuum rather than fixed point.For example, age "2 and up" can mean 18 months or under for one child, 2 1/2 or 3 years for others: all perfectly normal children.
